this is kinda a long story but i'll make it short..a month ago i purchased a sidekick 2 online from a 17 year old girl(it was through myspace, yes i know i shouldnt have). i trusted her because she had a "shop" site and had positive feedback from several people. i sent her $60 through paypal. basically i never recieved anything and finally after i told her i was going to send her to court she sent me some verizon phone with gross videos of her doing things to some guy! well i told her i want my money back and she said she would send it but never did. me being smart i had screen shot every single message, from day 1 and saved it to my computer. i looked up her dad's name in the white pages and found her address. i sent her a message saying that i have it (i was never rude or said a curse word) so its not like she can just try and get out of giving my money back. now her dad wants to sue me just for looking up their address! can they do that after she scammed me and i have all the proof?

No one can sue you for accessing publicly available information like the White pages.

Yes you messed up but what is done is done.

If you are over 18 you could get into a lot of trouble. You recieved porn from a minor. Who's to prove you did not ask for them. God knows what this girl will say or already is. Threatening to inform her parents could be considered blackmail. She could say "sorry, I forgot to send it and now I am afraid for my life". My bet is she knew what she was doing by sending the pictures and has done this before.

Plus if a complaint is made the police will take your computer. Mere possession of these picture would get you charged.

Consider this possibility. The whole thing is a scam. There is no girl but the name you found was actually the scammer. Just a thought.

What to do? Not sure about that. You could drop the whole matter and see what happens. If something later happens you could tackle it then. If the father contacts just keep the messages and don't respond.

You have to be an officer of the law since this is a situation where someone is breaking the law. The most you could do is to have an organization where you help the police to search for children or lobby for more penalites for sex offenders. The basic answer is that civilians cannot be vigilante keepers of justice. The law doesn't allow it.

This is the US, anyone can sue. It's not a terribly credible threat, he hasn't got much of a case.
Speaking of suing, consider taking them to small claims court to get your money back.
