In theory yes a router could host a virus and plant it into a PC, but not in the real world. For all intent and purposes the answer is no. This is not where you virus is comming from. You are most likely not getting everything clean and the PC is reinfecting itself.

No, the router is just that, it sits there and directs traffic i.e. routes traffic coming from Internet to ur computer. Like a traffic signal it will let a criminal in vehicle pass, just as it will a priest..hmmm. Anyway, having said that. There are ways to secure the router, to have it deny traffic from certain ip addresses, mac (machine) addresses, etc. Like a traffic cop checking IDs, denying some access, giving access others. See ur router manual for directions on securing your home network
try this reload windows, ensure U hit "L" to delete the partition, start raw, load new windows, once loaded, immediately load virus protection, firewall, then UPDATE, many updates for windows include "Malicious software tools", IF It's a new window xp sp2 u have lots of updates to download before u say ur done w\ this guys computer. Run spy and virus ware once more all U have ALL the windows updates downloaded and installed. Then take to his place and hook it up and it should be okay.

You need a good antivirus program like AVG or kaspersky. The router is just your door to the internet entering your PC.
Check also the site your accessing, the driver on your router is the one that is affected by the virus and has corrupted your file. Safe keep your file and reinstall your OS dont forget your antivirus.
Just to contaminate or quarintine the file you had. Carefull next time.

There is no "in theory" It cannot get a virus period. It is just a signal passing through it does not store information. So the answer is no. Not in the fake world and not in the real world. You should back up your important files and reinstall your operating system that is what I would do and it will get rid of the virus.

No, the Router can't get infected. The only place that data can be uploaded to a router is a small flash rom, and if something was, it would stop the router working all together.
That is in theory, in reality, that never happens.

hello
in practice it never has happened, that router could be infected with a virus. the only options could be you didn't clean infection completely. depending on what AV program your friend has.
there is another possiblity that you could infected that PC throught infected floppy disk or USB flash drive.
just reformat Hard drive and reinstall OS.

I don't think so but sometimes the DSL and the Wireless router get crossed signals. I have to turn both off and wait 30 sec then turn back on when this happens.

routers cannot get a virus... but if you want to make sure, just reset it's settings.. all your settings and all will be restored to manafacturer default - this will secure that there is not a virus.. then your job is to set it back up. Have fun.
