EDIT: i just checked and found out that most of favre's stats are better than romo's. (only by a tiny bit though)

Favre gets "elder statesman" status, much the way Elway and Marino did near the end of their careers.
It's both a tribute and respect. Fans want to see that.

Favre is the starter not Romo for a couple reasons. First of all, he is considerably the best QB ever. Second, this may be his last season and that makes a wonderful story for the NFL. Last, the NFL is a business, they make more money with Favre as the starter. The NFL has not been about putting the best players in the Pro Bowl for many years, probably before you were born.

I would say because Favre is the greatest QB to lace em up and Romo isn't good enough to carry Favres jock strap. Something like that. Also Favre had the most votes, more then any other player. Just another thing he happens to be #1 in.

Well when you have an all star crew like Romo (11 pro bowlers) and haven't been asked to carry his team most of the seaon like favre has, that's why. Give Favre either Jason Witten or T.O. and he'd easily have 35+ TDs.
