So I'm on regular birth control, but my period always starts a few days after I start the placebo pills. Don't know why, but my OBGYN person said it was okay so I haven't worried about it. My question is, is it safe for me to have sex without a condom during this time, even though I'm only taking placebo pills?

Its fine, you will be protected at the 99% effectiveness rating of the pill.

Just remember that nothing is 100% even when taken exactly as prescribed.

And you should always use condoms to prevent HIV/AIDS and STDs and also as a double source of protection.

As long as you are taking your B/C pills properly and without missing them
and you have been on them for at least 3 months you will not become pregnant
if you are promiscuous or your partner is you are vulnerable to get sexually transmitted diseases including HIV
