INSTRUCTIONS:Estimate each sum or difference by rounding to 0, 1/2, or 1

NOTE! all the answers that i put on here are MY ANSWERS! they may not be right!! Also, everything in parenthases (however its spelled) is how i estimated and evaluated the fractions.

5/6 + 3/10= ( 1 + 1/2 ) = 1 and 1/2

9/10 - 3/7 = (1 - 1/ 2 ) = 1/2

4/9 + 1/4= (1/2 + 1/ 2) = 1

5/8 + 2/7= (1 + 0) = 1

7/10 + 11/12= (1 + 1 )= 2

8/9 + 4/7 =(1 + 1/2) = 1 and 1/2

5/11 + 1 and 2/7 ( 1/2 + 1) = 1and 1/2

1 and 6/11 - 2/5 ( 1 and 1/2 - 1/2) = 1

4 and 2/7 - 1 and 7/9 ( 4 - 2 )= 2

Use this info for the following Q's

About how much juice is used in the punch?

4 and 3/5 = 4 and 1/2+ 2 and 1/4= 2. 6 and 1/2

I'd say you have some interesting questions there, actually. I'm not so interested in checking your homework either, but I noticed an interesting problem:

4/9 + 1/4

You think that comes to 1. Estimating, I'd say it doesn't. Half of 9 is actually 4.5, which means that 4/9 < 1/2. Then what happens when you add 1/4? You don't reach that magic 3/4 mark to round up to 1. Therefore, the answer is actually 1/2.

Actually doing the math out, you get:

16/36 + 9/36 = 25/36, or approximately .694444 (and on forever)

As you can see, this rounds down to 1/2, NOT up to 1.

This is how you do these.
Here is one.

5/6 + 3/10= (50/60 + 18/60 ) = 68/60

1 8/60 = 1 4/30 = 1 2/15

i don't want to check all ur work (sry) but i will tell u that u need to make the denominators (bottom #s) the same. for example ur 1st question:

5/6 + 3/10

make denominator 30

25/30 + 9/30= 34/30

in mixed number form is:

1 4/30

reduced to

1 2/15

I don't know what your teacher wants you to do exactly but I would think she/he wants you to add the fractions and THEN round to the nearest of the options you posted. If that's the case then they would all be wrong.

For example, #1
