I am really obsess with arts since when I am standard 6. My parents said tht I will regret for the rest of my life if I didn't take their advise on taking art as a leisure & not as an ambition. Anyway, I told myself tht I will regret for sure if I didn't give it a try..There lots of elderly senior whom love arts said they try to hooked up on their ambition as long as they can but it juz wouldn't work cuz they can't survive any longer as in financially. Some said u will hv wait for 20 to 30years or so to be famous in the art industrial. Some said the drawing of an artist only being well known to the world once they are dead. IS THIS TRUE??? I hv a hard time to cope up with the real world. This is juz driving me insane!!! My eldest sis I should go for architect instead of art but I wouldn't want to design any building & measure..etc. I should draw wht I feel.. So, she came up with plan B. She pursued me to find another currier tht I like+high salary..So i chose to be a psycology since..

Psychology requires professional grammar.
As long as you don't have high hopes in money you will be OK.
You can always marry into old money!

I'm not sure if you'll be able to do it if your main priority is to be famous. Artists draw and create because they want to and they HAVE to to stay sane!
Go to school, continue your own education by self teaching with library books in the art field (there's great stuff out there), and get a regular job. There's nothing that says you can't do art part time and do well with it. I've got it as a side income and it's been going very nicely, but the bills get paid with the regular 9-5 work place.
High salaries usually don't go hand in hand with 'art'. You would have to make compromises, and definately narrow down the field you're looking at entering so you're not all over the board with your focus.
I know artists who do illustration art and magazine covers, who've designed cards for the game Magic: The Gathering, and who have put out tarot decks. It won't pay all the bills, so they do have side jobs as well.

If you are an artist, you should study art (Fine Art) in college, and also take AT LEAST a Master's Degree in it ... but you probably WON'T make much money at it until you are very old. My husband is a fine artist (the best, as far as I'm concerned, even if he wasn't my husband) but he worked as a chef because he couldn't support himself as an artist ... and he was homeless after he had a heart attack and couldn't work as a chef. He took a one year course in Web Management, taught Web Development for about 4 years, and now works (for a company he originally taught for) as a Web Developer. He's like a five year old going out to play when he leaves for work every morning, so at least CONSIDER getting into the 'technology field' or into 'creative advertising' and do your 'art' when you are not working. You will be happier, and your art will probably be better, because you can then 'do art' that YOU WANT TO DO and not do art because someone is willing to give you a commission for something you really don't like to do.

i'll be honest with you, there really is not a real chance of being a famous artist like 50 years ago. what i would suggest is that you should create a side business with your art. set up a web site and sell over the net i have seen this and have considered doing this myself. look up other artists and see if it interests you. you can make money on it, but it is better to have a back up plan. i hope this helps you.

Your parents have your best interests at heart, but they frankly have no idea. Illustrators can make a very good living, as can fine artists and graphic designers.
One thing I can absolutely GUARANTEE is that no matter what field you enter, if you don't enjoy what you do, you will never be successful. A career in an area you feel nothing for will lead to a future of mediocrity and regret.

i work as a freelance artist - i do illustration for children's books - and some illustration for school curriculum - i also do paintings to sell at markets. altogether it brings in about $40,000 a year in income. it took a long time to make contacts and prove myself though - having my work hang at local cafes and shops and galleries and contacting authors. i am 40 years old and it is only just now proving fruitful for me. I have always worked also as a secretary - to give me a regular income - now i just do that part time.
good luck with your dreams - there is nothing wrong with doing something you really love - do the psychology and then do your art as a side line until you start to really do well with it.
