They were an underappreciated group from the late 1960s. People dismissed their music as being bubblegum and didn't take them seriously. Then Tommy James got involved with drugs and left them to start a solo career. He was to have sung lead on the Alive & Kicking song "Tighter, Tighter" but he was so strung out at the time and couldn't perform. He did have some solo hits, most noteably "Dragging The Line". The Shondells changed their name to Hog Heaven and had a few hits, the biggest being "Hallelujah".

There was a great Oldies station in NYC... that was always on in my early days...
Good sound, for so long ago... their song Mony Mony was still being played well into the 80's and 90's in dance bars... and even developed that sub-culture can't (hey! get l*id get f*cked) in between the lines... As a small kid, I'd sing "I Think We're Alone Now" (children beeehaaaave, that's what they say when we're to-ge-ther...) and "Hanky Panky" (I saw her walking on down the li-ine, yeeeeeeeaaaaaah... you know I saw her for a real long time.. a pretty little gi-irl standing all alone... hey there baby, can I tak-a you home...". Crimson & Clover I never understood, but it sounds good... over & over. They actually had 4-5 really strong top/chart songs... and are always overlooked on retro/rock shows/documentaries.

Great band, but fell into the grey area of "pop or rock" (as did Paul Revere and the Raiders in the US and The Move in the UK) Crimson And Clover and Crystal Blue Persuasion were great trax

I remember liking Crimson & Clover in 1st grade (& that was several years after the song came out) I had no idea who they were, but I liked it.
Fun band. I love 'Mony Mony' & 'Crystal Blue Persuasion".
They're another one of those bands where when you hear the songs, they just have "The 60s" written all over them.
