I'd asked you about which acting agencies are good for a teen, and someone said I should get an acting manager before having an agency. Why do we have to? Don't we need to have an acting manager?

Generally most kids parents do that job.

Managers are not licensed and can charge more than 10%.

Movie studios don't deal with managers as readily as record companies do.

The only plus with a true manager is they will help finance your travel, promotion and press relations, which an agent won't do for you.

I went right away and got signed to an agency. Currently ive been working for University of Texas and their educational movies caleld Heads Up in partnership with Dan Productions. You dont have to have a manager. You just need to get signed.

You need an agent first. The agent's job is to get auditions for you. You only need a manager after you become more successful and need help managing all the bookings, negotiating fees, etc. Sometimes agents also work as managers, though not always.

What you need first is your parents' support. Until you are 18 you cannot sign with an agent nor work professionally without their permission. The way teens become actors is that their parents are working very hard to make them actors, finding them opportunities for experience and training and eventually an agent. That's reality.
