There are different causes of mood swings, including hormonal, neurochemical, developmental (i.e. events that happened as a child) or circumstantial (i.e. if you are going through a period of stress, change or grief). Mood swings are also associated with certain disorders such as anxiety. People also have different degrees of "moodiness" in their personality - some people are just more emotionally reactive than others. You don't mention what types of moods - this is also important in working out the cause, which is the first step in finding out how to stop them. If your mood swings are causing you distress, worry, interfering with your ability to work or develop or maintain close relationships with people, you should go and speak to a psychologist or counselor about it. Otherwise, try and keep track of what the "triggers" are. Do you get moody at particular times of day? When you feel frustrated or misunderstood? Only around certain people or locations? How strong are your moods? If you can see a certain pattern of triggers, this may help avoid what "sets you off". Also, be sure to explain to your friends that you are having trouble - otherwise they may just think you are a "moody *****" and stop talking to you. But do mention it to your doctor next time you go - it's a very common problem. Good luck!

It could be many things, many women have mood swings related to hormones, you know PMS. Some times they are very hard to deal with. It could also be bipolar disorder or other things. Check with your doctor if these moods are affecting your life, there is medication available.
