NO!

If a ratio is say, 2:3 the only way to change the numbers and preserve the value is to multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number, in essence multiplying by 1.

2:3 = 4:6

No. it changes increasing by 100%
for example : ratio = a : b = a/b
when we add 1 to it, itbecomes
a/b + 1 = (a + b)/b
numerical example : ratio 11 : 19 = 11/19
adding 1 to it, it becomes
11/19 + 1 = (11 + 19)/19 = 30/19

No...

Let's say you had a ratio of 1/13 such as 2's in a standard deck of cards...

adding 1 would give you a ratio of 1/13 + 13/13 = 14/13

or if you mean adding 1/1 you woud go from 1/13 to 2/14 = 1/7

Hope this helps.

Suppose you flunk 1 out of every ten tests you take. Your pass/fail ratio is 9:1.
If you add 1 to the ratio it's 10:1, and you always pass!

I'm reading your question differently than the previous responders did. I *think* you're asking--and correct me if I'm wrong--whether
(a+1) : (b+1) = a : b.

The answer is still no, unless a=b. For example,
1:2 ≠ 2:3, since the first one is equivalent to the fraction 1/3, while the second is equivalent to the fraction 2/5, and obviously 1/3 ≠ 2/5.

of course it changes. For example, if you have a ratio of 2 chickens per farmer, if you add another chicken, the ratio would increase to about 2."sumthing" per farmer right...

i know sometimes the easiest thing can be the most confusing thing...good luck with that!

a / b + 1 i not unchanged.

Ratio is a fraction and adding something to the fraction (except zero of course) changes it. Multiplying a ration by 1 does not change it.

a / b + 1 = a / b + b / b = (a + b) / b

if you add 1 to anything, does it remain unchanged? of course not.

x+1=x is false
