take the bottom and work out the squared to get
-8x/ 1+x^4
then you use the quotient rule to get
((1+x^4)*(-8) - (-8x)*(4x^3)) / (1+x^4)^2
distribute and combine like terms to get
(24x^4-8)/(1+x^6)

"aanickaa" meant of course that the original bottom is squared...thus [1 + x^2]^4
