April 19th, 1775 is the start of the Revolutionary War. The British heard that the colonists had stored armaments at Concord, Massachussetts. On the night of April 18th, General Gage sent 700 British soldiers to seize or destroy them. Paul Revere and a few other patriots carried the news that the British are coming. As the British arrived at Lexington on their way to Concord the next day they were met by 70 militiamen who assembed on the village green. A small skirmish followed in which eight Americans were killed. No one knows who fired the first shot. This was the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The British continued on to the town of Concord. But the military stores had been removed. At the North Bridge a short but heated battle occurred. After this the British marched back to Boston. But they had to fight their way back as the rebels fought them every step of the way. Soon the war spread throughout New England. The Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775 was the first reaI battle of the war. But the Revolutionary War had begun on April 19th.
I hope that this has been a help to you.
