Someone posted a question regarding being a furry and if there are other terms to use in its place . . . I am interested to know what a furry is, as well as other terms.

Depends on your definition of furry.

The people who just like cartoon animals in general, as characters? Those who simply find sentient quadrupeds fascinating, without their hands superglued inside their pants? They tend to go by Anthro, short for Anthropomorphic, in relation to the concept of anthropomorphicism. More or less, any given object about you, for a moment in your imagination, imbue that object with some manner of human-like characteristics. It doesn't have to be bipedal or even all that animate, but if you look at a Buick and see a pair of eyes for headlights and a s**t-eating grin for a grill, you are anthropomorphicising the car. Anthro fans tend to sometimes go by furry, but not as commonly.

What most folks seem to think of as furries, are the minority group within the fandom as a whole. More or less, the folks who take fascination and enjoyment a bit TOO far. Sometimes, their lines between fantasy and reality become ambiguous, and they think they actually ARE cartoon animals. Then they start sharing kinks, and they treat the internet as if it was real life (because really, outside of cons and the chat roms? They usually have nothing. Not much family life, not alot of friends, et cetera) things tend to go downhill pretty fast. Other names for these folks are Furverts, creepy-guy-with-candy-in-his-van, leg-humpers, the list goes on, use your imagination. Most derogatory terms are leveled at this group.

'Furry" covers a wide range. Believe me, the sex part is way overexagerated. Take a look on YouTube for 'midwest fur fest 2006" you'll see the costume aspect of it. I just finished vendoring last month at the Chicago show for this year, it said right in the rule books that ANYONE attempting to do any sex acts in public, in the dealers room, in the hotel where anyone could see would be blackballed for life and would be reported to police. It's NOT like the CGI episode on tv. This is a family event.

Furry is art based on human type animals--animals that walk on two legs (think Bugs Bunny, that's the cartoon form) or who have human shaped arms and legs under their fur. People write stories about their characters they come up with, and they draw the art, and yes some of the art is X-rated but it's usually done in a nice way with professionalism.

Here's a site with good furry art -- http://us.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Kyoht/index08-by-date.html

From my understanding, a "furry" is a person whom is into people (possibly themselves) whom dress up in animal costumes while performing sexual acts. As for other terms... got me there. It's odd to me because it's like beastiality, but human. So technically, you are attracted to animals, and want to have sex with them, but you want a human organ because it's the "right" thing to do. I don't know hun. All that stuff is way strange for me. Maybe someone else can explain better, buit that's my best effort at answering this. And if you are into either of the two, more the power to you for being who you are, just don't break laws or be cruel to animals.

It was a Tee Shirt, I designed, many years ago, with a pile of small, hairy critters with big, sad eyes. Little word balloons sprouted from some the them, reading "Wuk!"

The caption, upon which all these critters were piled read, "No Wukking Furries."

"Wuk." "Wuk." "Wuk!"

Careful, the copyright is still in effect.
