I'm 14 years old and I'm being forced to go through circumcision. My questions is, if my surgery was on the 21st of December, will I be able to do physical activities like soccer by the 5th of January?

If someone is forcing you to have it done (and for no good reason), you need to report them. I, personally, would consider this child abuse - as forcing a teenager to mutilate his/her body is a violent act.

Circumcision has no viable health benefits, except in extreme cases (such as cancer or certain tissue problems). Even phimosis is not a logical reason to have a circumcision, as there are other ways to deal with it. If anyone tells you anything different, tell them they're full of it. There are MULTIPLE medical associations that back this statement up. You're also going to hear people talk about how circumcision is cleaner - and that's a load of crap. The United States and Israel are pretty much the only countries left in the world that prolifically circumcise - and the rate is even decreasing at a rapid rate here in the United States. There's simply no reason for it (outside of certain serious medical conditions).

As far as healing, I would say a few weeks to a month should see you back to normal activities, but no sexual activity probably for 6-8 weeks, I imagine. I'm not a medical professional, so you should ask your doctor about that. In fact, why don't you tell your doctor (if this is something that you don't want to do), that you really don't want to do it but that someone is making you - unless it's the doctor telling you that you need to have it done. If that's the case, you should report him to the medical board.

At your age, circumcision is going to affect you in other ways than physically - especially if it's not something that you want to do. You really need to discuss with someone or several people. Don't let ANYONE force you into doing something that you don't want to do - ESPECIALLY when it comes to your body. There's nothing that is worth destroying your body over - your parents, your significant other, your doctor, or your religion (the almighty will understand).

NEVER give up when it comes to something like this. Your body is yours alone and it belongs to no one else. If someone else doesn't like the way you are, they need to get over it and learn to accept it.

If you're okay with going through with this (I question this because of the way that you phrased the question), by all means, do some research on circumcision - but make sure you look at it from a neutral position.

If you don't want it - no one can force you. There is not a single soul in this world that can force you to go through with something like this - I don't care who they are.

I offer you my best wishes and good luck.

// EDIT:

If you have any questions or need any help finding information or sources (or even doctors to talk to), I'll be more than happy to help - just e-mail me! I'm serious about this.

Due to medical problems w/foreskin growing closed, I had circumcision procedure done 3 days ago at age 70. Using local anesthetic, entire procedure, in & out in 45 minutes. Even drove myself back home. No pain - only mild discomfort. Prescribed antibiotic for 10 days to keep down infection & take Ibuprofen for the mild discomfort. If I'd known it was this quick & easy, I would have had it done years ago. Anticipate 3 weeks full recovery time.

Possibly, depends how the surgery goes.

But why are you being forced? If you don't want to, then please stand up for yourself. I can think of many reasons why you wouldn't want to be circumcised - fight it! There are lawyers that work for kids. Also if you tell the doctor you don't want it then they can't do it. Make a big fuss if necessary, they shouldn't operate, if they do then you could potentially sue even if the doctors had the permission of your legal guardians. Good luck.

Why in the hell would anyone "force" you to get circumcised. How about asking them to get their tongue whacked off...!

That is yours YOURS! Not theirs. No human being should dictate what or what not should be done to your body.

Stand up for your rights man! You will lose so much sensitivity. I've known guys that were sooooo sorry they did it. And it is not reversible.

Whoever thinks they can force this on you is a monster and it will be held against them for the rest of your life. Trust that and tell that to their stupid face.

If you have some disease and your penis is about to fall off, maybe then consider it, but if you are normal then there is no reason in this creation that you should have your penis mutilated! None what so ever!

Genital mutilation to both men and women should be outlawed world wide. Who ever thought this up was not right in the head.

Seeing this question makes me and I'm sure others, ill. No self respecting person would ask another human to do this or force them better yet. Turn this table, ask this person to get one of their eyes gouged out for the same reason they think they can force you to get the most sensitive part of your private body altered, mutilated, and desensitized.

Use your man power to stop this insane request while you are ahead of the game.

There is also no medical reason for circumcision. NONE. What you hear and what you read just supports the doctors bank accounts.

Bathe every day and dry carefully and you will never have any problems. And if and when you have sex, wrap that rascal.

To answer your question directly, yes, you should be (since it's not a contact sport like wrestling) unless something goes wrong with the surgery.

I think it's extremely wrong that someone is forcing you to go through this. If you'd like, try to stand up for yourself by making valid arguments.

If you have a tight, there are alternative methods to make the foreskin loose. I did it and it worked (haven't had a problem since).

Otherwise, if you want to debate (your parents, I assume), feel free to use any of the statistics, studies, and links below. In the end, best of luck.

I'm against infant circumcision. By leaving a boy uncircumcised, if he's not satisfied with it he can always get cut and end up satisfied in the end. One survey found that about half of circumcised guys would have preferred to had made the decision themselves:
http://www.jackinworld.com/qow/q15.html

Circumcision has become less common. Circumcision rates were as high as 90% back in the 1960s and 1970s (that's partly why today's adults are so... brainwashed, I supposed you could say, about thinking that circumcision is better) but they have fallen to as low as 14% in some states. Here are the statistics:
http://www.cirp.org/library/statistics/USA/staterates2004/

The USA is the last developed nation doing it to a large number of newborns without religious or medical needs. (Europeans, Latin Americans, Japanese, and most Australians, Canadians, and Asians don't circumcise):
http://www.circumstitions.com/Maps.html

Christianity doesn't ask for circumcision, either. In fact, sections of the Bible are harsh against circumcision, and the Catholic Church even condemned the surgery:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circumcision_in_the_Bible#In_Christianity

In a medical study, it was found that females are more likely to hit orgasm with an uncircumcised man:
http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/408/60750.html

The lubricated foreskin (on the inside... like your eyelids) slides up and down during sex and masturbation to stimulate the head (which is why you don't hear of uncircumcised guys needing lube to masturbate).
http://www.cirp.org/pages/anat/

Studies have found that circumcision reduces sensitivity (this article also mentions how it has lost popularity in the USA in recent times):
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,285532,00.html

And despite being more sensitive, uncircumcised guys still last in the same six minute range (average) that circumcised guys do:
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1743-6109.2005.00070.x

Circumcision makes masturbation more difficult:
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1464-410X.2006.06646.x

Which makes sense, that's how circumcision was promoted in the USA:
http://english.pravda.ru/science/health/27-03-2006/77873-circumcision-0

Increases erectile dysfunction rates:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=14979200&dopt=Abstract%7C

If too much skin is removed in circumcision, it can make the penis smaller since the penis needs some skin to expand during an erection:
http://drgreene.org/body.cfm?id=21&action=detail&ref=1125
http://www.altermd.com/Penis%20and%20Scrotal%20Surgery/buried_penis.htm

There's pain involved, often why doctors don't want you in the room when it's done:
http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/9712/23/circumcision.anesthetic/
http://www.pslgroup.com/dg/1f21e.htm
(you can search online for a circumcision video, too)

Circumcision does not completely stop penile cancer. The American Cancer Society has already confirmed the myth that circumcision = no cancer.
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_4_2X_Can_penile_cancer_be_prevented_35.asp

If circumcision did stop penile cancer, then penile cancer would not be more common in the USA (most circumcised adults) than in some European nations, where circumcision is not practiced other than for medical/religious reasons.
http://www.circumstitions.com/Cancer.html

And a new study found that circumcision does not reduce your chances to get HIV/AIDS. Unlike other studies, this one was done in a developed nation; the USA.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22096758/

Of course, there are other risks associated, but those are typically the ones due to surgery. You can research it more here:

http://www.mothering.com/articles/new_baby/circumcision/against-circumcision.html

PS. As far as cleaning goes, it's really simple. For the first years in life the foreskin doesn't pull back. That prevents stuff like poo/fecal matter from touching the head. Later on all it takes it 5 to 10 seconds to pull the foreskin back and rub the head; it even feels good.

Circumcision is not that big a deal! People get so bent out of shape on a useless piece of skin.

Relax and all will be well. Soon you'll be able to play sports and enjoy the lifetime benefits of being circumcised.

circumcision is torture. plain and simple. even the doctors think so. and it'll hurt like a s.o.b. for about six weeks, every time you piss or run, unless it gets infected, and then it'll be longer.sorry. whoever's forcing you should get a clue.

Why are you being forced?! Don't let anyone force you to do this! Tell them you don't want it done.
