I'm not sure about a movie, but I do know that this was used as the plot of an episode of "Quantum Leap". The girl later went to an audition but was in back and couldn't read lips from there. EDIT: The other poster describes something that does happen in the "Quantum Leap" episode. Again, "QL" could have borrowed from a film, as they did far too often.
I'll see if some film did use this because it sounds very familiar. Wait! I think I know which one used that! I'll be right back!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm back to say: Darn! That's not the movie I needed! I can find movies where it's regular dancing, as in "Hear No Evil" with Marlee Matlin; but, I can't find the one about the ballet dancer. I'm more and more certain that I did see that film~if I could only remember an actor's or actress's name. The movie I thought it was was about a young deaf man who is an inventor and meets a dancer, if I'm recalling that correctly.
I did find "Voices", starring Amy Irving and Michael Ontkean. He's a rock musician, and she is deaf, but she's a teacher. I seem to recall there being a scene in which he has her touch the speakers as he plays music, and I think he turns up the sound till she can feel it from the floor.
So far, the only deaf dancer I've encountered is in the "Quantum Leap" episode "Private Dancer":
First aired: 3/20/1991 Production Code: 66416
October 6, 1979: An aspiring dancer working as a waitress in a strip club is in danger of being led into a life of prostitution unless Sam, as "Rod the Bod," can convince her to audition for a spot in a professional dance group. But, because she's deaf, the choreographer doesn't believe she has the time to give the talented young lady the attention she'll need.
I'll keep looking for this one.
NOTE: In "Voices", Amy Irving is a teacher. She isn't a dancer, is she? I don't remember her playing a deaf dancer.
Speaking at age 20 - A girl who was deaf wouldn't bother me in the slightest its honestly personality that counts for me, however i know when I was in school I wouldn't have the 'life skills' (if you want to put it that way) to know to talk to someone who was deaf like you would any normal person I would have been too shy scared in case I offended that person. The guys are most likely just lacking in maturity. It sucks I know but as the people around you get older I'm sure you'll start getting more of the kind of attention you want from guys when they start to become less effected by peer pressure etc. Hope it was some sort of reassurance or something, sorry if its not I tend to ramble too much.
I remember that movie. Sorry, I can't remember the name. But, I can narrow it down to the 80's. I specifically remember a scene when she was trying out for something and had trouble following the instructor because he would turn his back to her. She needed to read his lips to follow direction.
It's called 'Voices' and it was SOOOOOO good! It starred Amy Irving and Michael Ontkean and the singing was done by Burt Cummings (I think). It was made in 1979.
Thanks for reminding me of this movie -- I'm going to try to buy it!
It's called "Pubic Vibrations". The girl goes deaf when a giant farts near her ear as a child. She learns to dance by humping a loud speaker.
