My baby has a temp of 101 rectally.........of course I will monitor it and I will contact my Dr if it goes over 102.......I did give him some tylenol. I am always afraid to just give meds. Is this ok? He is teething but I read that teething does not cause elevated temp. I just get so nervous when I think something is wrong with him.......

my baby had the same thing happen last week, temp of 101, coughing, runny nose and she cried alot. i took her to the doc immediatly and she was checked for Phneumonia, she tested negitive, so it was a long confusing day, come to find out it was teething, and an ear infection, you should always get your doctors opinion though, i asked a bunch of questions and never was satisfied with any answer, unless it was her pediatrician. go to the doc, you will be better off and so will the baby :) good luck

If your baby was under a month old and had a fever there would be a need to rush to the hospital. however since you say he is teething I suspect he is maybe closer to 4-6 months old. He probably has caught a cold especially if he has been exposed to someone who has one. As long as he is willing to drink and can produce wet diapers he is probably fine. Another indicator that he is well hydrated is if his mucus membranes appear moist, he can cry real tears and his eyes appear moist. you can gently pinch up a bit of skin on his hand and see it snap back immediately then he is ok. If a baby is truly sick, you can usually tune into that pretty fast as they will refuse food and seem listless or be screaming bloody murder. If you notice any stiffness in his neck or extremities or you just have a gut feeling that" he isn't acting right" go ahead and call the pediatrician. Best to be on the safe side, especially if he is your first.

My little booger is teething and she gets tylenol almost daily when her mouth is bothering her. His mouth is being cut to shreds by new teeth trying to pop thru, and tylenol does help.

Try a cold wash cloth frozen, for him to suck on too. Anything cold that he can stick in his mouth without choking. If his temp goes over 102, I'd make a call into the doc. remember that little ones temps run a tad higher than ours.

a fever means there is something thats making him sick. you should call the doctor's office and see what s/he says you should do. Even when it's closed there is still a contact number.

101 is still high and close to 102 and that can be a little dangerous to a baby.

try cooling him down with a bath that's slightly cooler than you would give him or wipe him down with a cool damp washcloth in the meantime.

I'm a grandma now, both my babies got fevers when they were teething. I used to worry myself sick. Fevers are normal things that babies have. If it gets too high, contact the doctor. I wish I knew then, what I know now. Follow your instinct, the Tylenol is good and you and your baby will be fine.

babies do get temps like that when teething. See if maybe the baby has a sore throat or ear infection ,sometimes they go unnoticed or not easily detected, unless the baby has trouble swallowing it's milk. The meds you gave as you described them are fine, until the baby sees it's doctor.

Its fine. You can also try a luke warm bath. A cool washcloth on his head. The tylenol you gave him is fine. How old is he? If he is older than 6 months try motrin. It works better. Hope he feels better
