Neither. Both of those cards are bottom of the barrel for gaming. You wouldn't be able to play any new games (unless you like playing at 640x480 with all settings on low = it would look like a PS1 game). You would however be able to play older games like Call of Duty 1 (2003) and other games from that generation.

I would highly suggest upping your budget for something like this:

Look at this chart, the blue lines are the cards I pointed out:
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=1064&model2=855&chart=275
and the cards you pointed out in the same game (blue lines again)

In action / shooter games you want to aim for 40 frames per secong (FPS) or else it will look choppy. For RPG and story type games 30 FPS can do.

Go with the 7300GT, the other card only has the graphical interface of 64bit which most games now require 128bit which the 7300GT has. The core and memory clock speeds on the 7300GT are really slow, look for a $100 card thats has 512mb ram, 128Bit and core and memory clocks speeds of 500/800 at least.

Now I know why I can't find a freaking graphics card anywhere for Christmas...everybody is buying them for all the new games. (At least thats what I'm assuming)

As for the cards, I'd go for the 7300. The 8400 is terrible because its a mid-range 8-series...does not support SLI nor is it that good overall. 7300 all the way.

I'd go for the first choice. I made this decision by a coin toss. :)
