Pulmonary circulation pertains to the non-oxygenated blood being delivered to the lungs through the pulmonary veins to the lungs. By passing through the aveoli, a gas exchange occurs. CO2 (products of cellular respiration) are exchanged for O2. Then the oxygenated blood travels through the pulmonary arteries and is distributed to the rest of the body.

The blood that is distributed to the rest of the body is called Systemic Circulation. It is the oxygenated blood that perfuses the body through arteries, arterioles, and capillary beds.

The systemic system carries blood out to deliver oxygen to the cells and comes back to the heart full of carbon dioxide.

The pulmonary circulatory system goes out toward the lungs full of carbon dioxide and returns to the heart full of oxygen.
