Could you instead give them your social security number and a receipt saying you applied for a card? I can't wait for the card to come, I absolutely need the permit before december 21.

Go to your SSI office with your proof (you need a picture ID, proof of address, birth certificate or passport.).

They'll give you a letter that states you applied for your card with the number on it. The DMV will take this letter as proof of SSI.

Check the SSI website to confirm what documents you need if you don't have the above, there are alternates.

That depends, are you a legal resident?
If so, then the law applies and you will need to show your card.

If you are illegal immigrant, no problem.

If your parents are claiming you on their taxes, you should already have a SS#

you have to ask this of your DMV .... laws differ by state, dude.
