that YA is so popular? I first came here because there was nothing decent on TV and then, I guess, I got hooked. For me it makes my brain work - a good thing. And its a little like having a conversation ... albeit a short one ... with an intellegent friend. How about you?

But what's with the scores? Are there any advantages to having a really high one other than the 'king of the hill' factor? And if you're naturally inquisitive (as ( am), how do you ever reach such high scores. I lose as much as I gain most days by asking questions.

I think most of us on seniors ask questions that are a disguise to communicate. We aren't suppose to "CHAT" but we still like to connect with others. Wickwire has thought provoking questions and Wally has funny questions and then there are the ones who keep us in stitches like Suzie s ,Fisherman and Siddhartha.
I answer questions mostly to communicate with others. I have never been one to sit and talk on the phone and I've given up letter writing so.................Y&A it is!

I enjoy alot of the humor and jokes and the interaction between us. I wish more of the older seniors would post more,
as I'd like to hear more from them on things they remember.
I'm talking 70's and up, mind you. I never talked to my parents or my grandparents about their youth and I made a big mistake not thinking about it when I was young and raising
my children. Now that all of the elders are gone, and I'm now
the eldest in the family, there's no one to ask about things now.
I tried hard to reach the level I'm at now. And I had alot of
difficulty reaching this level, because twice I lost from over
a hundred points without an explanation. I was thinking it
was only 50 the other day, but it was more like a hundred
or over twice, and I was frantic to make those points up.
When it happened again, it was worse. I felt I needed to
reach this safety level for some reason. And I also wanted
my credibility to remain intact. I have watched my percentage
drop gradually over time. And I can't worry about it. I can only
do what I can. And I have a life to live away from the computer
too. So I no longer try to answer questions like a crazy
person. LOL. I just do my best. And I try to enjoy myself. And
if my answers can help someone along the way, that's not
all bad. I have learned a few things myself. So it's a give and
take situation. There's comraderie here, that isn't on any of
the other forums. So I tend to think we're a special group here. And most of all, we think like adults and discuss what
interests adults. Not just senior things either. But matters
that concern everyone. And reflections back in time, are fun
to remember too. For we've seen so many things the
younger generations haven't. And we wear our vericose
veins proudly LOL.
So, now that I've added my two cents worth, I'll step aside
and let someone else add their nickel's worth LOL.

i am just curious. i've always been a people person. albeit i am more of a loner on a social level in the real world. i am not good with technical or really serious questions, and like the light heartedness, i also enjoy being transported back to an almost forgotten era, being reminded of how things used to be, and generally just enjoy the thoughts and opinions of others. points are just part of the process, and i also ask way more questions than i give answers. it is a fun way to fill in some of my down time even though my husband pops into the "office" to make sure i haven't left him! LOL! cheers and have fun with it. merry Christmas to all.

One of many reasons I come here is
By answering the questions it has helped me remember things. Also it has help me make more things since out of some of the things I do and why...

Like the hobo question. I had forgotten that when I was young , my grandmother feed the Hobos.
Now I
wonder if that is why my father always took food to people that were in need.... I have always given turkeys away at Christmas and gifts. If I know of someone in need I try to help them no questions asked... I knew I grew up knowing that is just what people do because my dad did it....
now I wonder if he did it because his mother did it also......I know I leaned from my father... Now I hope because my children and grandchildren have watched me they will always be ready to help people..So, by answering question here I have more of an in site to my history...Does that make since?Another reason
When I come to answers it is like reading a great novel about interesting people. I like to hear what others did in the 60's what they do at Christmas how they deal or not deal with menopause Not sure if I explained that right!!!

The score and best answer are just a bonus but I will not lie I like it when am picked for Best Answer sometimes it is the best thing that happens to me all day!!! abuela

I think it's mostly because the same people are on here, day after day, and you actually get to know them in an Avatar sort of way. It IS like talking to a friend, although I did get a violation for 'chatting' All I was doing was wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.
I don't bother too much about the scores 'cos you are not exactly in the running to win a bag of chocolate buttons!
Merry Christmas!

Can I just repeat almost everything that has already been said? I get lonely, this is company for me, I tried a couple of chat rooms, but I don't care about that kind of trash talk. I love catching a good laugh, learning something, and being able to express my thoughts. I like finding out that a lot of others have the same, worries, concerns, etc. I asked one question that led to more of a discussion than Q&A but it was interesting and helped me resolve some personal issues. I'm glad that I found YA and especially seniors.

High scores don't mean squat. For me, it started when I tried to look busy when work was slow, Gut I've read some questions that I've had experience with so can offer a different perspective. Occasionally, people will tell me I helped and it's a good feeling. I generally ask questions when I'm truly 'stewing' over something and I've received some great answers.

I came because my former forum went kaput...then after a long while, found the seniors section [just as I was getting ready to 'depart' lol]

I like it for the same reasons you do :-)

The scores? In the beginning I didn't pay much attention to them, until I found one day I couldn't answer another question...then read the rules/guidelines and realized I needed to reach another level! lol

Now that I'm at Level 6, there's not a whole lot of incentive to go farther...no more perqs!

BUT I do pay attention to the Top Best Answers category...usually that's where I continue to 'grow' so to speak....have made Goldwing my goal to surpass! LOL LOL

I got a bunch of violations and every time I open up in the morning I have a bunch of points. Sunday I hit 5,000 and I now have over 400 points this week and I know I had 4 or 5 best answers but wouldn't earn that many points. They used to tell you when you got violations but they don't any more!! They just restore your points!!! I like to visit and see how other countries live!!

I got on like a year ago and forgot about it then recently I started playing around in different catagoties . Once I stumbled into the senior section I became hooked! I love it here and enjoy seeing certain peoples answers. Even if it is a type of " chatterbox " deal why in the world would anyone even waste time caring ...you know?

Ditto to everything you said. It's such a nice pastime. I feel as if I am having a conversation too. My points add up because I can't think up interesting questions to ask. No imagination I guess. The points don't mean anything anyway.
