The nintendo ds has no link cable port. Since the games were developed w/o adding wifi capabilities, they can't support it.

No wifi doesn't work with the gba games, also cables can't go into the ds so you'll have to use an older system if u want to battle someone.

No the only way is to do the cables but you could transfer your fire red and leaf green pokemon to diamond or pearl and play through wifi
