sorry, don't know when it was invented, but it was very importatnt to western expanision. it allowed many important goods to be carried across the country and spead technology. it also brought people across the country (HOBOS mostly :) ) and that allowed more ideas to be spread as well. hope i helped (i haven't exactly taken us history yet...)

The steam condenser invented in 1750 or thereabouts was the mechanism which led to the application of steam to power industry and it would eventually be applied to land vehicles and the first steam locomotive around 1800. From that time on railroads were installed between the large centers of population along the east coast of the US. The railroad was actually started in England
