always wash cleanest to dirty, meaning wash face first--by the eyes then down. Wash arms, chest, abdomen, then armpits--then get a new wash cloth. legs then feet. new wash cloth. turn patient, wash back then genitals, front to back. to turn someone it is very useful to have a separate sheet or cloth under the torso. pull the draw sheet to one side. bend the leg that will be on top to help turn the patient. that is the general gist.

Unconscious doesn't mean unable to assist....it means NO response whatsoever... so I presume the one you are talking about just couldn't move to give himself a bath. If so, here it is.... let him lie comfortably on the bed....
1. Get all things ready for the bath
2. Put on a light blanket on top of the person, as you try to undress him/her
3. Be sure to use water sparingly so as not to mess up the place. Put a plastic sheet under the head, when you shampoo
4. Wash the face with mild baby cologne using a small towel, gently wiping dirt. ( People in bed rest tend to have very sensitive skin ); then the neck, both arms, the torso, the legs, feet, and turn gently to wash the back of the body... NOW the butt, you can use gloves while washing it with mild soap and rinsing it thoroughly, then, the last will be the genitals; do it with a small towell with mild soap, wiping it clean, then rinse the towel and wipe it again till it is almost dry, put a small amount of baby powder so that it will feel fresh. Give the person a mouthwash as the last step and voila! clean as a daisy!

It is important for the caregiver to address the patient by their name, and tell them that you are going to give them a bed bath. Many unconscious people hear even though they don't respond. As well, tell them what's going on in the weather, what is happening in their family, members of their social groups, their residential area, and that, while you understand they are as yet not responding, you want them to enjoy the bath, and that you will do everything you can to make them physically comfortable. Also, that you care about them.

Has to be the towel..pop it in the dryer with a fabric sheet while it is still damp and it won't smell stale. My sheets are washed every other day and I don't plan to stop..!

there is approximately 68 steps in giving a bed bath...check around and see if you can find an assistant nursing book and it will give you pictures and written instructions on how to correctly give a bed bath...or check with your local heath department maybe they would assist you..

1. Open phone book.
2. call nearest nursing home, and get a rush admit.
They are trained to handle this type of situation don't try and do it if you're untrained.
