Please keep in mind I am one,but let's just suppose that nature is perfecting it's own genetic form of population control? It makes sense that not all men or women procreate because there would be just too many people...So what if the genetic code for homosexuality is one that is staged to appear at random as natures way of recognizing that perpetuation of our species is not a constant priority and allows for same sex attractions???It would define a purpose in the scheme of things in my opinion. But I would like to know if anyone could give it some thought and let me know what you think.

I would guess that it is the same mechanism that tells nature we needed to be able to see,or that fish needed gills...

Hm... well, it does make sense to me. At least it's a whole lot more true than that ridiculous theory circling around that "if homosexuality were natural soon the human race would completely die out."

Honestly, I don't particulary care about "nature's intention" or the reason homosexuality exists, but I get that some people need a reason (and some bigots are persuaded to be more understanding by logical reasoning as well. I've had experience with that). It's more important to me that people just accept those who are different, rather than going back through theories and history for the reason. Anyway, cool idea. Cheers. =)

In theory, I think it is a valid and plausible theory.

It would likely rely on the presumption that living in a heavily populated society leads to a higher level of stress.

A 2004 study titled 'Tracking Stress and Depression Back to the Womb' said "Some experts say a fetus's awareness that its mother is stressed may serve an evolutionary purpose, preparing it for entry into a difficult world."

A mother's stress or anxiety during pregnancy has been linked to everything from a child having better motor and cognitive skills at the age of 2, to a child having a lower birth weight.

Theoretically, a mother's feeling of stress in a larger populated community could influence a level of hormones which could 'flip a switch' to cause a child to be homosexual. As other mother's experience the same stress, the human population might thin to a more desirable level where the stress would no longer be experienced by the mothers leading to a lower incidence of homosexuality.

It appears that large cities have a larger percentage of homosexual people, with the cause being attributed to gay people moving to friendlier surroundings. It would be interesting if a study were to be performed that might find a link showing a larger percentage of native-born homosexuals in urban areas and a lower percentage of native-born homosexuals in rural areas.

Interesting theory, but one important point is not clear IMO:

"as natures way of recognizing that perpetuation of our species is not a constant priority "

How does the nature recognize it? What is the mechanism?

its a good theory in sense, but that would mean that you "become" gay, as apposed to "being born" gay, since, unless there is some sort of connection between a mother's stress patterns on a certain subject to an unborn fetus, many people disprove. That also implies that there probably weren't homosexuals in the ancient times, which many people disprove also.

my thoughts.

It's a not uncommon theory -- but given the spread, I think its a natural variant.

Yeah, I've heard similar views before, and it sounds plausible to me.

Maybe some day we'll know...

I can understand parts of it, sure.

Now, try asking this Religion and Spirituality. I bet you'll get a number of rude answers.

You just might have something. Maybe God is saying that those people who dont follow him should not be allowed to reproduce, but rather, be inflamed with lust for one another.
