I got it for the Wii and I just starting to play it. I am right now indecisive if I like the controllers or not. DBZ BT2 controllers were fun and I had a blast and had no trouble pulling moves. DBZ BT3 changed the whole control moves and is hard to pull some smash attacks but overall is really fun doing a kamehameha or masenko.
It has a story mode and not to bore you, they changed the overall story flow and made some good changes. For example, Freeza's saga has three stages. There is the stage where Freeza tells them he can transform so instead of you fighting freeza, you fight as freeza against vegeta, picolo, gohan and krillin. The fun part is where you are about to kill Gohan then it goes into a CS and show picolo jumping in to save Gohan and you then fight picolo. Basically it is like you playing the anime.
New characters so far are: King Vegeta, Nail, Dr Wheelo, Babidi, Picolo Daimaku and others.

i have the second one and it is great
it should have a story mode
if you have a PS2 get the Wii version and visa versa
Here is some information: Several new notable features include: Battle Replay, night and day stages, the Wii's online capability, and Disc Fusion. Battle Replay allows players to capture their favourite fights and save them to the hard drive to view later on. Night and day stages allow for more accurate battles in Dragon History, as well as the ability to transform into a Great Ape by using the moon. There are also several other time differences, such as dawn and afternoon. Not all stages provide different times. You can also change the aura of your character. The Wii version will feature online multiplayer capability, the first game in the series to have such a feature. Players can fight against anyone from around the globe with a ranking system showing the player's current standing compared to anyone else who has played online. As compensation for the lack of online, Spike has added a new "Disc Fusion System" to the PlayStation 2 version. Inserting a Budokai Tenkaichi or Budokai Tenkaichi 2 disc during play unlocks Ultimate Battle or Ultimate Battle Z, modes featured in the respective games needed to unlock them.
There are 161 characters

if you're a DBZ fan , you should definately buy this , i have all 3 budokai tenkaichi's and DBZ BT 3 is the best AND the hardest to master , itz more of a challenge , evry1 is unlocked at default 'cept da new chars like goku gt , king piccolo , king vegeta ,
the story mode is good and very challenging BUT the game is short
BOTTOM LINE - IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A CHALLENGING GAME , DRAGON BALL Z BUDOKAI TENKAICHI 3 IS IT
