I found out (after the fact-mind you) that my 10 year old daughter saw the fertilization of the sperm and the egg in a health class. Then they talked about different types of families....and alternative lifestyles.
Don't misunderstand I am not prejudice againsts gays and lesbians (I have two gay uncles - so please no nasty comments) or anyone for that matter.
However, being the active parent that I am I would have liked to have known what my child was learning at school. There was no paperwork stating this is what she was learning.

They send papers home for every other subject......

I feel my parental rights were taken from me.
I would have liked to be the first person to talk to my child and I feel she is still too young - that is my right - isn't it???

Would you say something? What would you say?

Whining is what annoying people do - concerned parents get informed...
Thanks Lillian :)

Isn't the PTA all about fundraising...every meeting I went to they asked me to sell stuff or raise money - so I stopped going.I donate money but would rather spend my precious time with my children not scamming people into buying cookie dough or wrapping paper.

Parental Rights in this day and age?

Certainly we should have them, but the government wants to own the minds of your kids. Try reasoning with the nutcases in power. They will not give up until every traditional family is destroyed.

I definitely agree with you. I am not a parent yet, but I would really hate for a stranger to teach my kids about all of that stuff. I would explain it like it is, unlike the people at school. I remember the sex-ed classes they gave us in middle school, they would make every scenario seem like if it was ok and that there was nothing wrong with it. I would rather hear the truth and all of the facts from my parents. One reason is because they are telling me all of this information because they care about me, not because they are getting paid for it. I also think 10 years old is too young of an age to learn all of that because then it gets them thinking and wondering. I believe the "period" talk is ok, but only from the mother. Then later on in life you can move on to the sex talk.

I agree with you. Perrmission slips should be sent out. When you send a child to public school they are required to provide an education that is age appropriate unless your child has an IEP (indavidualised education plan)
Something that comes to my mind is had the information been in theaters would it be rated pg, or pg 13.

At the age of 10 there is also the huge range of emotional development to consider, and a ten year old can easily distort such a topic with their imaginations.

Your question isn't clever... we are being noted as liberals as a results of fact we do away with your liberty? That'd be like announcing we ought to continuously call somebody Conservatives as a results of fact they don't shield something. Sorry, fail. Nope, we are noted as liberals for the alternative reason.

You abrogated that right when you enrolled your child in the school. If you wish to retain that right, you can either home-school or select a private school that will adhere to whatever it is that you want your child not to be exposed to.

The way to enforce your desires is to go to PTA meetings, school board meetings, talk regularly with her teachers, examine the curriculum, go through her text books, and talk to your child. If that's too much trouble, then that's why you abrogated.

That's the world we live in, it's only going to keep getting worse. Sad to say Billy C and Lillian are right, but since everyone is so busy and everyone wants to be open-minded and get along, we do nothing and this sort of thing is the result.

When you placed your child in a government (public) school you are agreeing to their (and the school board's) way of thinking. I would recommend you place your child in a school that has YOUR values and morals.

It does cost (financially), but my children all attend private christian schools where I KNOW the values and morals of the teachers, and that sex education will be taught at home- when I SEE FIT!!

Report what happened to your school board representative ASAP! If no luck, the Secretary of Education in your state.

Yes I would say something. However it would do little good. The ONLY way to change things is make SURE that ALL parents KNOW who they are voting for when it comes to the board of education and make sure there are NO liberals on it.
The other thing is you DO have an alternative.HOME SCHOOLING!
If 90% of parents would do this, it would send a CLEAR message to our educators, that they are fed up with their stupid liberal social engineering programs taught in their liberal indoctrination camps, known as public schools.

You should have been notified of this.

This is what they do now in schools. They teach your kids what they want. It makes no matter they can not read write or add, as long as they know about different families.

If it were my kid I would be up at school taking them apart
