This is MY Favorite

Winkin', Blinkin' and Nod

Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod, one night sailed off in a wooden shoe;
Sailed off on a river of crystal light into a sea of dew.
"Where are you going and what do you wish?" the old moon asked the three.
"We've come to fish for the herring fish that live in this beautiful sea.
Nets of silver and gold have we," said Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod.

The old moon laughed and sang a song as they rocked in the wooden shoe.
And the wind that sped them all night long ruffled the waves of dew.
Now the little stars are the herring fish that live in that beautiful sea;
"Cast your nets wherever you wish never afraid are we!"
So cried the stars to the fishermen three - Winkin', and Blinkin', and Nod.

So all night long their nets they threw to the stars in the twinkling foam.
'Til down from the skies came the wooden shoe bringing the fisherman home.
'Twas all so pretty a sail it seemed as if it could not be.
Some folks say 'twas a dream they dreamed of sailing that misty sea.
But I shall name you the fisherman three - Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod.

Now Winkin' and Blinkin' are two little eyes and Nod is a little head.
And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies is a wee one's trundle bed.
So close your eyes while mother sings of the wonderful sights that be.
And you shall see those beautiful things as you sail on the misty sea,
Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three - Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod.

Hey Diddle Diddle. I really like the etymology of that nursery rhyme.

Oh, and Ring Around the Rosy, because it was about the Black Plague. Not that I'm a big fan of Bubonic Plague or anything, it's just the irony of a sweet little rhyme being related to such a global pandemic.

Sing a song of Six Pence a pocket full of Rye
Four and twenty Black Birds Baked in a Pie
When the pie was opened the Birds Began
To sing,my mind went blank just like that-somebody will get it if I don't.

Oh! and Jack Sprat could eat no Fat.

Mary had a little lamb
also "The little train that could"

The Little Engine That Could

There was a little railroad train with loads and loads of toys
All starting out to find a home with little girls and boys
And as that little railroad train began to chug along
The little engine up in front was heard to sing this song
Choo, choo, choo, choo
Choo, choo, choo, choo
I feel so good today
Oh hear the track
Oh clickety clack
I'll go my merry way

The little train went rousing on so fast it seemed to fly
Until it reached a mountain that went almost to the sky
The little engine moaned and groaned and huffed and puffed away
But halfway to the top it just gave up and seemed to say
I can't go
I can't go
I'm weary as can be
I can't go
I can't go
This job is not for me

The toys got out to push but all in vain alas alack
And then a great big engine came a whistling down the track
They asked if it would kindly pull them up the mountain side
But with a high and mighty sneer it scornfully replied
Don't bother me
Don't bother me
To pull the likes of you
Don't bother me
Don't bother me
I've better things to do

The toys all started crying I cause that engine was so mean
And then there came another one, the smallest ever seen
And though it seemed that she could hardly pull herself along
She hitched on to the train and as she pulled she sang this song
I think I can
I think I can
I think I have a plan
And I can do most anything
If I only think I can

Then up that great big mountain with the cars all full of toys
And soon they reached the waiting arms of little girls and boy
And though that ends the story it will do you lots of good
To take a lesson from the little engine that could
Just think you can
Just think you can
Just have that understood
And very soon you?ll start to say
I always knew I could
I knew I could
I knew I could
I knew I could
I knew I could
I knew I could
I knew I could, yeah!

"Pop goes the weasel".My twin sis and I were EXTREMELY logical children, and one of my first memories is us discussing the logic of a bi-pedal mammal chasing a quad-pedal rodent.
"Maybe it's a fast monkey and a slow weasel"she said.
"Maybe the weasel had a hurt leg",I offered.
"Maybe the Monkey knew it wanted to catch the weasel, but the weasel did'nt know,so it almost did!"she retorted.
"Maybe the weasel was on the floor, and there was stuff on the floor, and the weasel had to move out of the way,and the Monkey could just jump over it" I gave back.

This discussion went on for almost 10 minutes. We never got to why the weasel went 'POP',that probably would have been too much for us.

Klumperty and his wife
Rose early one fine day
And with their butter and eggs eggs eggs
To market off went they
They'd gone halfway to market
When, on the ice, went -THUD!
They dropped and broke their eggs eggs eggs
And the butter fell in the mud
She wept, but not for the eggs eggs eggs
But for her shawl; perchance
Which she had made the day before
Out of Klumperty's Sunday pants!

don't ask me why..it's just the one that's stuck there...
