Texas is one state like that, unlike California which is. That is a state that believe in the equal division of property in a divorce. Unfortunately, the judges have some free reign with that and I have see where a lousy judge has not given equal division by any means. No matter, it's much better to live in a community property state.

It means that the property you and your wife acquired during the marriage cannot be evenly distributed between the two of you during a divorce.

A community property state is the opposite. It means that everything you and your wife acquired during the marriage belongs equally to you and your wife.
