I mean, what ever happen the rest of the year? Who takes care of them? Who sends them food? WHY DO WE COLLECT THINGS FOR THEM ONLY THIS TIME OF THE YEAR?

My home, is Paris, France. I am a volunteer medical doctor since 1971 working in refugee camps located in war zones for no compensation.

My greatest joy in life is being able to help victims of war, abused women and the poor. (Never went into medicine for the money).

I have been in just about every country in the world, and I consider myself blessed to share in all the different cultures that I have shared and lived in.

My work days are some times 24 hours, and on the averge I am lucky to get 30 minutes of sleep.

The great devide between the rich and the poor keeps getting greater and greater with no end in sight.

As for Christmas or any other holiday they are just another day of work for me.

I use "answer" as an escape for my mind. Otherwise I am working.

I really think that the poor have to fend for themselves all of the year. And the few lucky ones get a gift package from people who think about the poor during Christmas time.

If you are a believer in God, we are all God's children.

The reason many only think about homeless and poor people this time of year is because they are so thankful and happy to look around them and see their family, friends and all that they have then it hits them! Not everyone has it as good as they do and they feel a sense of sadness and almost a lonely feeling in them for these people. They then want to help out some and give money, food, and time to organizations that help these people who may not have any family, money or can not afford to buy their children gifts for Christmas. I feel some for the poor, the ones who I really worry about and feel for are all the children that will not have a Christmas due to their parents not having enough money or because their parents have drunk, smoked, or wasted most of the money they did make. So I feel more uneasy and sad about the poor children who will have nothing or get very little in the way of gifts and or food and some even get little if any love. I do think about them all year and give when I can, but the fact is I can not give a whole lot all year or else I will be as poor as they are you see? So during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday season I make sure to give a little more to groups that help the poor and homeless and I give more to groups that help children. Most all churches collect things for them year round I know my church does and it gives lots of money to these groups each year as well. So when people give money to their churches they are giving to many of these groups. At lest if the church they belong to does as it should with the money. =)

Well, some people may only "care" about poor people simply because it's Christmas. You're making a broad generalization when you say, 'WHY DO WE COLLECT THINGS FOR THEM ONLY THIS TIME OF THE YEAR?" As far as I can tell, many people donate to organizations like the Salvation Army and The Goodwill year round. Since I shop in these thrift stores from time to time, and they are full of merchandise, it's obvious that plenty of people are giving away used clothing, household items, etc. So no, I don't think it's fair to say that "people care about poor people only because it's Christmas time." If it matters that much to you, why not clean out your closet and take a bag or two of things you no longer use down to the Salvation Army. Merry Christmas!

Poor people are helped all year. It's just stressed at Christmas because everyone is in the giving mood and organizations take advantage of that fact, knowing people will give to them.
All the nonprofit organizations are like that, begging for money in December.
Some of it has to do with income taxes, if people give money to the nonprofits, they can deduct it off their income tax for this year. So they have to get it in before the end of the year.
My church has a food pantry going on all year and are always helping the needy in some way.

I actually don't think of them at this time of the year. I think of them quite often. I donate once a year money to a hospital the St. Jude Hospital for Children with Cancer. That's pretty much all I donate. Kids come first, the rest of the adults on the street, can go to work.

You're proabably right. I mean it's nice to give things to the people, but we should be giving all year round. People just think of christmas because they want to give these people a christmas dinner and presents and stuff. But God does tell us to be good and giving. So we should be helping people constantly, not just at christmas. And there are people that do like missionaries but I do wish their could be more.

THANK YOU! My point exactly. I try my best to give all year round. Some people act as if people are only poor and hungry during the holidays. Like they don't need food and shelter during any other time.
