Join the corn snake forum and your mom can read all the care info, talk to lots of experts in the field (as well as the author of the top corn snake care manual, Kathy Love) and look at tons of photos! The more she learns, the more likely she is to allow you to buy one. Make sure you know everything you need for one. Who will pay for the food? Babies eat a pinkie every 5 days. Best is to use frozen/thawed rodents.

I first got my corn snake when i was in elementary. I still own my snake and i am now in college. So just to warn you they do live long. The only other thing that is bad about them is feeding them. I have done live pets which are ok if you don't mind having to give your snake live pets, i have had only one time where i had to clean the cage because he got some blood on it. Now we are trying frozen mice which is really weird since they are frozen in a position. I love my snake though and if you don't mind that go for it. They are beautiful and one thing about corn snakes are they are very friendly. I have had my snake passed around the class room a bunch of time when in elementary. I also put it around my neck. I have never ever had a problem with it. You can also get away with feeding them one or two mice once a month and you only have to clean the cage after they eat and you can just get a scoop you would use for a litter box then once every couple of months put in new flooring or wash it. Snakes are great because you can put them in your room and your mom doesn't have to go near it if she doesn't want to. Also most people that hate snakes have never really been around one so she might learn to like them after a while. Hope that helps, sorry it is so long.

Let your mom know that a corn snake is the best snake to start out with. Tell her that they are very docile. They like to be held and rarely ever bite. They can grow up to 4-6 feet but aren't usually more than about 5 or 6 pounds. Tell her that they only eat once a week and are not very demanding animals. Tell her that they are not slimy or gross but they come is various beautiful patterns. Get on-line and show her some videos and get as much info as you can. And if she agrees, I have one I'm trying to get rid of now.(my house is over-run with animals right now)

I'm facing the same problem, so don't panic! Just try and convince her of how wonderful snakes are, and research some to help show that you really care and are not just doing this for no reason. My mom has already told me in no uncertain terms that once I move out, I'm free to get a snake but until then to just deal with it. If your mom keeps refusing, don't just keep getting angrier. Start doing even more planning and research, and make sure you know what you're going to say for the next time you ask. I wish you luck, because fear of scaly creatures is so irrational, in most cases. I hope this helps!

Snakes are very clean, corn snakes are harmless and beautiful. Keep the cage clean and feed it in a separate closed container only. She will never have to see you feed it pinkies. Keep the lid locked tight and it will never escape. Iguanas can bite off your nose and are aggressive!
