I am 37 weeks with my first, when I went to the doctor today he said that I am dilated 2cm. What does this mean? Will I have my baby soon?

who knows it! i was dilated to 2 for 2 weeks as long as your water dosent break and your not having contractions regulary your ok your body is giving you a head start, 8 more to go either way good luck

What that means is that your cervix has opened by 2cm. It will open to 10cm and then you will be ready to push the baby out. The amount of time this takes varies greatly. In truth, you shouldn't consider this an indication of anything. Some women walk around dilated 2cm or even up to 4cm for weeks before they have their babies. Others give birth hours after they were checked at 0cm.

you could have it soon but i wouldnt count on it, no matter what people tell u!! i got so excited both times i was pregnant when the doc said i was dilated! i had both at 39 weeks! i was dilated to 3 cm for 4 weeks with my last...

I agree with the rest. I was at 2 from Halloween till the day before Thanksgiving - and had my son on Thanksgiving. Didn't even get to 4 till that morning. Try not to worry or be too excited. I promise you won't miss it when it gets bigger! ( breathe!!! lol ) :D

it is posible that you will go into labor soo but i was dialated to 4 cm for 2 weeks and was still at 4 when i finally went into labor. i would give it another week or two and have it checked again.

being dialated really doesn't mean as much as you think it would. Your body is getting ready but some people will be dialated to 3cm for 2 months. Just wait it out.

Maybe, maybe not. I was 3 cm for 2 weeks and they still had to induce me. It all depends on your body.
