There is, and has been a HUGE hippie scene for quite some time. It's bigger than ever right now, and is proved with the growing music scenes annual fesivals held and the big (and old) names playing them. The reason you are just now noticing it is because of the growing trend to "go green" with our planets diminishing natural resources---it's finally cool to want to save the planet, and more and more [famous] people are jumping on that bandwagon to promote it. Celebrity gets you a lot further now than it used to.
We are also as a country in a crisis with war, and in America where there is war there is protest. That's not a revolving trend, but a simple fact that we are a free country and not everybody agrees with the way it is being ran and can voice that.
Musically, more and more younger musicians are being inspired by the greats of rock music, and trying to keep that sound alive...the Jam Band genre of music (including the Dead, Dave Matthews, Phish, etc) is popular, and those bands have huge followings.
It's not coming back, it's just finally being noticed.

I don't know-but I sure like the Bohemian Style of dressing.
Loose Lucy's is the Coolest Hippie Shop in Myrtle Beach,S.C.Peace Babyâ¥
It's truly still In As far as I'm concerned.
Listen to Ms.Ellie she is a wise woman, believe me.
Wink back to Shizz I know Girl-they smell like incencse or just good! :) to me to.
Only because I'm into the Music scene-I can say that No One No where Will Ever like I said before and will say Again Belt Out Notes Like Janis Joplin-that is gone-there good singers out there now but that's just it-good and most of their voices have been tweaked to Death,no so with Janis-Pure Raw and Rare is what she was and will stay forever in my mind that way.No white woman has and will never Belt out Emotion like she did.She was Peace Loving also as well.Very giving soul, died almost a pauper.

I sincerely hope so. I am a child of the "Hippy" culture. The music, friendship, comfort of feeling at home in any crowd was worth so much more than any huge mansion, hot car or Fab clothes these days.

The counterculture has always existed and in one form or another always will. The culture from your generation has past and that is for the best. Social evolution has it's own design, those who get stuck thinking their generation was the best is the reason we have a counter culture to begin with...

Y'all better hope the anger and the drug culture it produced stays in the grave where it belongs. Wear all and any of the clothes but you cannot live the war days of Nam when your friends went over there and died in the first two weeks...some of that culture should just stay dead, please. Manyof us would rather not relive the hell it produced. The rag wearing is cool tho! :)

I don't think the counterculture has even officially gone away yet. Some of it's still lingering after 40 years.
