Republicans fight against anti-monopoly legislation. If corporations keep merging at the current rate, in about a century there will be only one big monopoly left in the whole country. So, the US will become like USSR, where there was only one monopoly - Gosplan. What can possibly stop the process of further monopolization of the US economy?

They are planning for a New World Order and they plan to control the world's economy, politics, resources, etc. Every large country is moving in this direction because they see it coming and want to be able to function in it. You are right in what you are observing. Twenty years ago there was a huge push to break apart giants like ATT. Now look, they own so many services that they sell them to us in bundles. There has been a real shift in Republican thinking.

The GOP are not for monopolies. Where do people come up with this stuff. How many times have we heard that republicans are in bed with big business and oil. And they are against the little guy. Gez I get tired of hearing that. That is all propaganda spred by the Democrats. I really don't see any legislation that shows republicans do anything special for Oil co than anybody else. HOwever, I do see where Democrats are in bed with Big Healthcare. Putting forth ideas like free healthcare..LOL That is like gauranteed business. I know I spend a lot more on health insurance than on gas a month. And that is the key secret. It's called a distraction. By complaining about republicans and make people thing Democrats are on your side. Trust me, their hand is in your pocket. And as for the little guy??? The Reps feel that there should be limited government, they support business and competition, they expect people to be responsible with their own money. The Dems may claim they are for little people, and want to give you entitlements like this and that, but guess what, it is coming out of your pocket. They may say they support the little guy, but they are robbing the little guy blindly in the process all the while making their buddies in business rich doing so. Anti monopoly legislation is good for business. The dems will have you believe, everyone should get the same, and that will be nothing. Everyone gets the same nothing. Socialism didn't work in Russia and it won't work here. Entitlemets will kill this country.

While I agree with you that Republicans recently have allowed questionable mergers, so did Clinton. The Democrats I know of today who would be anti-monopoly are mostly just populists like Edwards who are anti-business in general. While it was a good 100 years ago, at least the Republicans can lay claim to Teddy Roosevelt, who truly was pro-competition (pro-business, anti-monopoly).

And it would be a little hypocritical of Democrats to claim to be for competition when there's not a free-trader in the lot. After all, the best antidote to a national monopoly is global competition. "Gee whiz (the Dems say), LABOR competition's different!"

That is a most unlikely senerio. The only monopolies that really exist are those created and protected by government. Your electrical utility, the post office, government schools stuff like that.

The GOP is for competition which is virtually the anti-monopoly.

It's the left who want the monopoly and the monopoly they desire the government; the government should run everything...more commonly known as socialism
