I just want to know is it some type of myth reasons or tradition? My family does it but why and when and who started it? Thanks also can you please star!?!

From what I understand, it is to lighten up the long and dreary days of winter. To put people in the Christmas mood.

There's a lot of things people do at Christmas that they don't know why. Lights at this time of year have different symbolic meanings to different religions and cultures. To the ancient Celts, the Yule log was a way of keeping back the darkness. To Christians, lights are symbolic of Christ, Light Of the World.

It comes from the old tradition of putting Candles on a christmas tree.
I believe it's a Victorian tradtion.

From the old pagan rites, where they brought fir trees inside and put candles on the branches, to signify, the return of the sun. To celebrate the winter solstice.

Is this a trick question? The answer is: To compete with my neighbor who has light on his house therefore, I must have them on mine! Plus they look cool and make the holidays more festive.
