The ONLY reasons you can legally change your SSN are if you are a victim of Domestic Violence or Identity Theft. In either case, you must apply IN PERSON at the Social Security office. On the case of Identity theft, you are required to prove you are being disadvantaged by the misuse of you number. I did not see an explanation of what that means.

yes, but it's a very difficult process. It's not worth it unless yours has been stolen.
