Everyone seems to be forgetting -- many of the dates you see for 1620 are "Old Style" (O.S.) dates, that is, based on the Julian Calendar, since the Protestant British had not yet switched to the Gregorian calendar ("New Style") we all now use, and would not until 1752..

Since in 1620 the Julian/O.S. dates were 10 days behind the Gregorian, things that happened on December 18 (N.S.) THEY would have recorded as on December 8... so here's what happened:

December 8, 1620
A party of explorers from the Mayflower encounter Wampanoag on Cape Cod for the first time.
