Has anyone used with one of those round looms? I'm hoping to make a scarf in a day or two using those.

You can make a fast scarf on the round knitting looms. If you have the large gauged looms you can use chunky yarns or worsted and have a very nice scarf that period of time you indicated.

One thing you need to be aware of is that just like in knitting on needles in a stockinette stitch the bottom of the piece will roll. You can stop the curl by learning the purl stitch to work the bottom and top edges, crochet the edges, sew the openings together, fringe them, gather both ends, or use a different cast on then the fliers that come with the looms give you.

Two strands of worsted weight yarns are usually used, but you will get a really thick scarf when done in the round. Before committing yourself to the purchase of the looms you can take a look at a couple of online sites that have tutorials for people wanting to learn loom knitting techniques. One is http://www.loomknit.com/ and another is http://www.loomknittinghelp.com/

These two sites will give you some great ideas of what can be done on knitting looms.

It all depends on what type of scarf, what type of loom, etc. If you can needle knit, you can knit a super-fast scarf using Lion brand homespun, wool-ease thick and quick of some other super bulky yarn. You would use about a 12mm needle or whatever the yarn label suggest and knit every row (garter stitch). I am not a great knitter and a scarf that is 5" by 60", takes me about 6 hours.

I also use the looms, and I can make a fun fur scarf (called a magic scarf) on the large yellow Knifty Knitter loom loom in about 4 hour. Another quick option is a scarflet. It is a short scarf (usually about 6" by 28") that usually buttons. I can make one of these on the Knifty Knitter pink oval loom in about 2 hours.

A couple of good sites for loom knitting and patterns are listed under sources.

Sorry, can't give you the answer you are looking for. I knit with needles and honestly , it is faster than those round looms. My grandaughter got some as a gift and I tried them. I found them to be very slow going.
