It is always the same ear, and sinus pain around the eye on the same side. Also the nostril that side is always affected more if I have a cold. Its not just with a cold though it seems to be ongoing, is there maybe a deepseated infection?I have had antibiotic eardrops which seem to help while I apply them but it seems to come back again, does anyone have a diagnosis and any advice?

The sinus pain on your face would be indicative of some sinus congestion and thus sinus infection in the maxillary sinuses which are located in the cheecks. Due to the of anatomical proximity of these sinus cavities and the nose to the ear; severe sinus infection sometimes can often cause earaches and even difficulty in hearing in the affected side. And because you experience this on a regular basis; the sinus infection and inflammation in this case is called chronic sinusitis. Chronic sinusitis usually follows common colds or the flu..

Chronic sinusitis can be properly addressed with a round of antibiotics. Ask your PCP ( primary care physician) for this. Another cause of chronic sinusitis might be the presence of nasal polyps which was the reason in my case. A Cat Scan of the sinuses can easily visualize these.

I had sinus drainage surgery and my diffused nasal polyps were resected. Hence thereafter . my chronic sinusitis problem was resolved which greatly improved the quality of my life. As these nasal polyps were also the culprit for my frequent bouts of migraine headaches.

Now, I can breathe better without the constant need for inhalers or antibiotics. . Also a Tonsillectomy helped with my chronic pharyngitis and laryngitis and frequent bouts of upper respiratory infections. These URI at times were accompanied with persistent earaches - esp in one with a hx of nasal allergies. It might behoove you to check into your sinus infection; and / or tonsils to relieve these sinus pains ; sinus congestion and accompanying earaches.
.

One final note of advice; if you do require sinus surgery; make sure, the surgeon doesn't drain it into the ears or insert a tube in the ear called myringotomy. Your earaches with acompanying hearing problem would further be aggravated. as it did to my brother. Good Luck!.

I get this a lot. Basically, all of your sinus pressure was pushing on your ear drum. The popping is good, it means the pressure is moving. Take some tylenol or advil and take a steamy shower. The steam will help break everything up more. Use saline nose spray or sniff salt water to break things up more, and keep blowing. It will hurt like hell, sorry to tell ya, when you hear the big pop. Good news, the big pop means it has moved away. The pain is your ear adjusting to the pressure change. Don't put a q-tip or anything in your ear right now, you may cause damage. Good luck!

Common allergies can sometimes affect one side of the nose rather than another, especially if you have a deviated nasal septum, however, if you are having frequent sinus infections and always on one side, it may reflect an anatomic abnormality that may need intervention.

I suggest discussing this with your primary doctor and perhaps trying chronic antihistamine therapy or nasal steroid therapy (flonase, etc...). If it persists, then seen ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) specialists and have them look for anatomic anomalies.

Good luck!
