i have a compaq presario SR2180NX and when i go to install xp it doesnt read the HDD any help?

It's possible, although somewhat unlikely, that XP doesn't have drivers for your SATA controller in your computer. In that situation, you would have to provide drivers for it.

perhaps you probably did no longer set the partition to being prevalent and energetic and bootable Edit: oh via the way the cluster length must be the default length, in any different case XP won't boot from it. Its a malicious program they on no account have been given around to fixing..

You need to install the proper drivers. There comes a point during installation where you have the opportunity to plug in a thumb drive with your drivers for Sata, Ata, and the like. You need to have them on a thumb drive. Here is a guide,

check to see if the HDD is in your bios. If not then check your back of your HDD to see if any cables came unplugged. If it is listed, try to repartition it using FDISK. then install XP
