Prenatals arent a necessity, the baby is going to get everything it needs from you whether you take them or not. They are really there for you! for your body to not lose too much to where you feel just zapped of everything.

Other than folic acid, the majority of women do not need prenatal vitamins. My doc said up to 1/3 of his patients arrive anemic or with low iron, which is why the standard is to give a prenatal vitamin. If you have a well rounded diet, with plenty of fruit and vegetables, as well as meat, then it is likely not necessary. If you are a vegetarian, then I'd go to a reliable source for that information.

I didn't have any prenatal care until 6 months and actually had to stop taking prenatals the final month because my iron levels were on the high side. I'll be sticking with folic acid, calcium and vit. C this time around (no prenatals) because I continue to have higher iron levels.

Well, nothing's mandatory, but it's certainly a very good idea to take prenatal vitamins. It's definitely the easiest way to make sure you and your baby are getting everything you need.

I take a prenatal vitamin however, quite a few of my coworkers say the prenatal vitamin makes them too sick or they do not like to swallow the big bills so their doctor says it is cool for them to take a good multi-vitamin. One friend even takes flinstone chewables instead of prenatal vitamin that her doctor approved. I think it would be best, if you can, to discuss with your doctor what options are available. Good luck to you girl!

Well, it is very important. Not necessarily for the baby, but for you. Your baby will take what it needs from you to stay healthy, and there's the dilemma...sometimes you're not left with much.

I had a friend who got horribly sick from her prenatals. Her OB told her to take children's vitamins which are more mild. I believe the main things are calcium, iron and folic acid.

This website explains why those nutrients are important:

Hope this helps!!

the toddler would desire to be great. Prenatal supplementations are like an coverage and decrease the possibility of a few start defects. you will get some time-honored ones over the counter at walmart or walgreens exceedingly inexpensive. in case you turn manufacturers you won't have that component result. diverse manufacturers use diverse base compounds. those I have been given from CVS used to upset my abdomen so I used to pass to Brooks Pharmacy (now ceremony help).

You should take the prenatals because it would be very hard to get the needed amount of vitamins, everyday, from eating.

I took regular vitamins with an iron supplement. I didn't like the way the prenatals made me feel (anxious, drugged.) This was fine with my doctor.

I don't think you can be legally required to take vitamins. The problem is even though you try to eat healthy there is a very good chance you will not get all the specific nutrients you need for your own body and the baby's.Why not try them and if you have no problems with them keep taking them for the baby.
