Why does the government have one tax for this, one for that, and one for that over there, when you could have just one tax. Is it so people don't see how much they are really paying the government? Why cant it be just like 20% of how much money you make, or something like that? It probably wastes more money to have a bunch of different taxes, because someone has to organize and sort all of them.

Wasting money and figuring out ways to create political red tape is what the government does. That way they can employ people to sort through the mess they make. By making a mess then hiring people to pretend to clean it up, they can claim that they have created more jobs and help to lower unemployment.

The flat tax would penalize the poor as they spend a larger % of their income on necessitys. If a flat tax included money made from investing it would be a little more fair. Rich people dont like that.

Very good question, and something I wonder every year when I'm working through the ridiculous mire of the 1040. It would eliminate most of the IRS, which would be a great thing, and make filing a breeze.

Just like Scrappy says, if there was a single tax, it would be near impossible to slide in other tax increases.

that would work for some but business owners would have to have deductions since they might sell 500 000 in product but actually make 10 % in profit. sooo, you have deductios for this, deductions for that , and we re right back where we started. afterall, would a flat tax be fair for some and others not have to abide?

i myself would love to have a fair tax or a consumpsion tax but it can never happen.

I agree but taxes are too controversial and no one has the balls to try to change the system. If he does have the balls, he won't be elected. A viscious circle.
