Mine was gone by 36 weeks according to my doctor. I lost it little by little starting at 28 weeks. I had the baby at 38 weeks.

The answer is no-you do not have to lose your mucous plug to go into labor. It generally looks like a big ball of snot with some reddish tinges but sometimes it can trickle out over a few days. It is preparing the body for labor but does not indicate labor is imminent it just means your body will be ready for labor in the next couple weeks. Don't worry about not having noticed anything, many women never see their mucous plug and that is nothing to be concerned about. Good Luck!

I know this sounds gross, but was it globby? blood-tinged or pink? if so, then that was probably your mucus plug, but if you've been really crampy you should go to the doctor to make sure everything is alright....but my friend is 39 weeks due on the 23rd and still hasn't lost hers. I believe i read that some women don't even lose theirs..BUT even if you have lost yours it doesn't mean that you're going into labor soon. I mean you could, but not necessarily. I would get the whole really crampy thing checked out though...just to be safe.

I lost my mucus plug in one lump with my daughter and labor started an hour later.
With my son I lost it for 5-6 hours slowly everytime I went to the bathroom. So you could be losing your mucus plug now.
Was it blood tinged at all?? I know with my first it was but my second it was just cloudy and white.
Hopes this helps, good luck and do a lot of walking that helps move the baby down and pushes pressure on the cervix. Which helps with labor.

No. You don't have to lose it. I didn't lose mine with my first 2 but lost mine this time almost 2 weeks ago. I felt the same way with my 1st son (crampy like) all day. Didn't know what was going on. My water broke 4am next morning had him at 1:30 pm.
