If it is spelt as 'mahavaram' it will be a word in Sanskrit. Then it will mean.....great bridegroom.In Hindu scriptures, when marriages of demigods are narrated, they are described not as an ordinary bridegroom but are said 'great bridegrooms'.
In India, the decoration of feet with scarlet paint by ladies is also known as applying 'mahavar'.
