Tough to hate some of the Yankee players, including such class acts as Jeter, Rivera, etc.
But ownership hasn't exactly been first class in the past 35 years, and it looks like the second generation has learned some bad lessons -- see throwing Joe Torre over the side of the boat for no reason this year.
And if you read the answers above, you'll realize that some Yankee fans are a little less than lovable.

There are various opinions. A lot of people are jealous. Some of course think they should farm thier own prospects and not trade 3-4 prospects for an excellent hitter. Others hate that they have so much money. Some are in rivalries with the Yankees. I personally do not care how good/bad the Yankees do. But all of this comes back to jealousy. Does that answer your question?

no. We hate the Yankees because they win by spending twice as much (literally) or more than every other team in the league. The '06 payroll was
1. Yankees: Approx. 196 million
2. Red Sox: Approx. 123 million
3. Mets: Approx. 104 million
(most average teams: 80 to 40 million)
The Marlins only spent 14 million.
The Yankees act like drunken idiots with their money, throwing 15 million on subpar players like Pettitte, just because they have it. Although i'm sure there is a bit of jealousy, considering the Yankees always only start playing after half the season and then kick into gear to rub our faces in their "superiority", most of it is just pure hatred.

they arent the best ever, they encompass all the greed and ego that make up the bad side of our American society, much like the patriots do in the nfl, these are teams that show no class at all whatsoever
the yankees will pretend to go after a guy (reggie jackson a perfect example) just to drive the price up, when the angels got reggie, the yanks didnt want him back, but they said so publicly, just to make the angels think theyd have to get into a bidding war and spend more than was neccesary, to me the yankees, and their fans, have embodied greed and arrogance and all the things that decent people dont do (george bush encompasses those things too)

Be flattered by it. No one is wasting hate on the Orioles or Devil Rays.
If you attend the Patriots Super Bowl rally at Government Center in Boston on February 5, 2008, yes, you will hear the chant loud and clear, as you would have heard it at the Rolling Rally for the Red Sox after the World Series "Yankees suck."

you gotta remember, that this goes back beyond the last 15 years, the yankees have been the cream of the crop for decades, and this has lead people to hate them, they have broken many fans hearts, in north american pro sports they hold the largest lead in championships over the remainder of the league, (26 to the cardinals 10 and athletics 9)
and the fans have been critical of the teams performance the entire time, they simply have a winning spirit (highest all time winning percentage in active franchises, .567)

For three reasons:
1) Many Yankees fan like them just because they are good. Bandwagon.
2) The Yankees beat everybody else's favorite teams, so why like them.
3) If you are a Mets fan like me, they ARE THE FREAKIN CROSS-TOWN RIVALS!

A lot of people don't hate the team or the city - they hate the fans. Not all Yankees fans (but a good number of them) are like spoiled little rich kids that think everything, including another WS ring, should just be handed to them because they have the most money. That tends to rub people the wrong way.

haha i think alot of people are jealous of them. they are just the team to hate. for me, its because when i was little i had lived in NY and EVERYONE i knew was mean to me about being a redsox fan. the yankees fans were ridiculous so ive hated them even BEFORE i knew that the yankees and redsox were rivals.
