Border Patrol agents were attacked 987 times along the U.S.-Mexico border during the 12-month period that ended Sept. 30, the agency said. That's up 31 percent from 752 attacks a year earlier, and it's the highest number since the agency began recording attacks in the late 1990s.
About two-thirds of the attacks were with rocks. Many of the rest involved physical assaults, such as illegal immigrants getting into fist fights with guards.
About one of every four attacks occurred in San Diego, and most of those happened along a heavily fortified, 10-mile stretch of the border starting at the Pacific Ocean.
Agent Joseph Ralph estimates he has been struck by rocks 20 times since joining the Border Patrol in 1987, once fracturing a shoulder blade. "You find yourself trying to take cover," he said.

I think we should let them cross the border then machine gun them for breaking our laws.To hell with the ACLU.Illegals are not Americans. If we did this for 1 week we wouldn't have any more problems.

Funny that this question comes up today. I am a cop in Texas, and I have 9 new stitches in my face from getting hit in the head by an illegal Mexican national I was trying to arrest last night. He was trying to rearrange my features with a bottle. We are constantly having physical confrontations with illegals in my jurisdiction, and the problem is getting worse. I don't know that deadly force is the answer, even though it's tempting. Less than lethal force might be the answer. Truthfully, I don't know how we will ever get a handle on it until the border is secure and the reasons for the flood of immigrants across the border are eliminated.

This must be the worst job that any U.S. citizen could possibly have.
They are asked to protect the U.S. borders, but are not allowed to protect their selves from bodily harm. And when they do, they go on trial.
I personally feel that these guards are getting the short end of the stick.
The only option that I can possibly think of at the moment, is that maybe the guards can use rubber bullets coming out of a semi auto matic weapon. Maybe our governor Arnold here in CA could recommend something.

I have heard about this.
The Mexican population seems to think our lower border region belongs to them.
What to do? What to do?
Maybe, it time they were treated like American citizens....
If I started chunking rocks at a public official, I would likely face being taken out in a heart beat.....
EDIT: Nice avatar by the way....

It is an undeclared war Mexico has against the U.S..
Mexico is practicing imperialism against America. Mexico even helps illegal immigrants enter America. Mexico also pays for anti-assimilation classes held here in America for illegal immigrants. Mexico wants to make the U.S. into an extension of Mexico. There are too many quotes that prove that to be true.

I think democrats shouldn't have stripped $3 billion from the current budget that was promissed by the Secure Fence Act last year. I guess congress doesn't want to help law enforcement.

I personally think that we need to hire more border patrol agents, we don't have enough, and they need permission to use all means necessary to defend themselves. they are scared to fight back because when they do, they have seen what can happen to them, they end up locked in jail.

The politicians wont do anything with the illegals until after the election because they want those illegal votes. It's a damn shame that it's more important to hold on to their power or regain their power than the security of our country.

I think that the agents should stand out of throwing range of the border. If someone crosses the border to throw rocks, arrest them for illegally crossing and for assault on a US law enforcement officer. Other than that, the border agents are in the wrong to fire tear gas (or anything) across the border into Mexico--we have no authority to do that.

I think they should be allowed to use deadly force against anyone on the other side of the border attempting to attack them, even with a spitball gun. After all, isn't it our right as a sovereign nation to protect our border?
