When certain things, ideas, theories are kept hidden for a long time, and then exposed for all to know/see. it is said that those things/ideas saw light of the day.

Situations usually appear better 'in the light of day' because during the night our imaginations can get the best of us and blow them out of proportion so they seem unsolvable or overwhelming. But I don't think your mom believes you when you tell her that your messy room would look better 'in the light of day'....I'm a mom and I certainly wouldn't buy it! Be a good son and clean up your room--it'll make your mom very happy....:)

well, the PHRASE light of the day, besides what robert said, can mean a new beginning, as in sunrise. Think of it as the Rennaisance after the Dark Ages.

The 'light of day' is opposite to the 'dark of night'.
Figuratively, it refers to things becoming obvious not hidden.
