I found out that my computer is infected with a virus and a Trojan horse. The problem is that I practically know NOTHING about how to remove these malware from my computer and I my anti-virus(AT &T Yahoo! Online Protection) just won't do ANYTHING about it. The virus is called downloader and the trojan horse is called Trojan.ByteVerify.

So my question is....

What should I do?

Please only answer if you know about computer viruses and Trojan horses!

Thanks in advance!

You can only use one antivirus program if your AT&T has an antivirus program, then you can shut down the antivirus and install a good free one. If you don't have an antivirus I suggest that you download the free version of Avast, free for home personal use. Excellent background scanner that really work in real time and updates auto. on the hour. http://www.avast.com

Or you can go to this link and let Trend Micro House Call, perform a complete scan of your system for trojan virus and spyware. There is no conflict with your own security. Just allow the save active "X", that must be installed for the server to scan your entire system. Allow the scanner to complete the job as it will find and destroy all viruses/spyware and destroy.

For Trojan.ByteVerify you need to clear your Java cache.

Clear your Java cache to remove that malware. "Go to Start > Control Panel > Double-Click on Java Icon > Under Temp Internet Files > Settings > go ahead and delete them. That will clear the java cache."

Trojan should now be gone.

Your Java is probably out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. To prevent further infections with this trojan, update your Java at the Sun Java website:
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Then go to your Add / Remove programs and remove any old versions of Java.

There are literally hundreds of different "downloader" viruses, not all would have the same removal procedure.

Good luck.

I just got a Trojan virus on my home computer. I tried several different things and the only thing that found the virus and got rid of it was:

www.superantispyware.com

It worked better than Avast, Norton 360 and Windows Defender

Good luck!

You can try finding the location of the Trojan and virus and delete them yourself, but if its impossible i suggest you get a better anti virus. You can always search online for free antiviruses.

GO and Download Grisoft AVG. Its a fast easy installation. And it gets rid of any trojans as soon as it finishes installing.

Trojans, sadly infect every program and important system files. Viruses, however are destroyable.

Can you get another computer for christmas? Or, do u have another one?
