It's Volvo S40 W reg and hasn't been crashed before. the higher the speed the noisier it gets. I guess to some people it may seam normal, but is there a solution to this little annoying problem. I'm sure new sealing rubbers would make a difference, but there should be easier, maybe not as effective, solution like rubber restoring spray or something similar or some extra sealant or some other trick. Long journey coming so trying to make it as pleasant as possible to all 4 of us. Thank you in advance and Happy Christmas!!!!!!!!

I repair cars for a living and some cars are better keeping the wind noise out than others, Volvo are usally not bad but if you are sure it has never been in a bump and had no new doors i would mabe replace the rubbers but they can be quite expensive but first try and take the door catches in a touch it would tighten up the gap between the door and rubber and should cut some of the wind noise.

The rubber dries out and hardens as it ages - and washing the car with any detergent will hasten this by washing the oils from the rubber.

The solution is to put the oils back into the rubber to soften it again. You can do this by rubbing them with petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline). It reduced the wind noise considerably the problems on my mum's 1996 Rover 200.

Try adjusting the door latches so that the door will close a bit tighter, the latch screws are usually very, very tight, and you will need an impact driver with a large crosspoint bit, maybe you could borrow this from a friend or hire one at very little cost, actually they are quite cheap to buy.

WD40 will cause the rubber to swell up, try spraying a little on the seals with the door open fully. Leave it on for about 10 mins then dry it off.
Ja.

No answers yet i see. Try the foam strips used to seal windows.
But first try the ten pound note test... serious.
Try closing the door on a ten pound note... if you cant pull it with the lightest pull, the seal is good at that point. Map all the points your seals are bad, and boost with tape.

The best way to avoid wind is to eat less roughage!
(alternatively, use earplugs)
By the way, the word is SEEM, not seam
