We're having a door decorating contest for our freshman students. Each class has to have a christmas theme that is linked to the homeroom subject. I teach English. So far we have made a Santa and we are going to have cotton for mountains of snow in the background, and snow for him to stand on. I am also going to have Santa holding a list of all the student's names. Now I just can't think of a way to link that to English/literature.

You could have some lines from a Christmas poem that mentions him. How about "A Visit From St. Nicholas "(Twas the Night Before Christmas) by Major Henry Livingston.

If you hadn't put the work in already I would have suggested a "Gift of the Magi" theme.

i did a bulletin board recently, where each child wrote a paragraph about winter that used sensory details and figurative language.

they did a really good job on it. i had them write their final drafts on snowmen.

here is a pic of it (don't mind the date -- my camera is acting up): http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee223/annie41378/100_1638.jpg

A small wreath made of pen or pencils. Mechanical pencils are a good choice. Do you have a criteria on ink.......
