I have a social project and we have to have a song that deals with an event in American History. Anyone have an ideas? If you could just leave the artists and the title of the song thanks! =)

Oh god, there are so many.

Civil War
"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" performed by Joan Baez (among others).

Great Depression
"Brother, Could You Spare a Dime?" by George Michael

Dustbowl
"So Long, It's Been Good to Know You," and "Pastures of Plenty," by Woodie Guthrie.

Kent State Shootings
"Ohio," by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young

Assassination of John Lennon
"I Just Shot John Lennon," by the Cranberries

And, of course, the ultimate song about American history:
"American Pie," by Don McLean. A song detailing the history, especially the musical history, throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Some of the events detailed include:
The death by plane crash of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. (the day the music died)
The rise of Bob Dylan (any lines dealing with "the jester")
The shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald (the courtroom was adjourned/ no verdict was retourned).
The assassination of JFK (we sang dirges in the dark)
The fleeting popularity of the Byrds (the birds flew off in a fallout shelter/ eight miles high and falling fast)
Kent State Shootings (Players tried to take the field/ marching man refused to yield/ do you recall what was revealed?)
Woodstock (There we were, all in one place/ a generation lost in space)
Altamont Free Concert and the Rolling Stones (From "Come on Jack be nimble, Jack be quick" to "No angel born in Hell could break that Satan's spell."
Janis Joplin's OD (I met a girl who sang the blues ... just smiled and turned away).

Difficult one, if you are able to choose the event, you could choose Vietnam War and use Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival, that song is just perfect.
